Active Directory Update - Allow users to update their own Active Directory information

New Features  - Coming soon

Over the past three months, we have been working on Directory Update, Directory Manager and Directory Search all at the same time.  AND we have been working on a new, free (and yet unnamed) tool that your help desk is going to love!  This new tool allows you to view more technical information about user accounts such as the last time the password was changed, when it will expire, if an account is disabled, etc...

Expect to see new versions of Directory Update (v1.6), Directory Manager (v1.2), and Directory Search (v1.2) sometime in the first few months of 2008. Customers that are on maintenance contracts or that have purchased in the past year will receive an upgrade at no cost. If your maintenance expires soon (or has already expired), you can purchase maintenance extensions.

So, what new versions do we have in store for you?  Here is a preview

  • Photo support - Yes, finally we are adding the ability to allow a user to upload their own photo via Directory Update or a manager to upload it via Directory Manager. And Directory Search will then let you view other people's photos.  Please keep in mind that this will substantially increase the size of your Active Directory database (NTDS.DIT) since the average photo size is between 15KB and 75KB depending on the quality of the original photo.
  • New Combo box data field - Data fields can be Text box, Dropdown, or Combo.  Combo box allows you to enter your own information instead of picking something from the drop-down list.
  • Control data format for any field - Directory Update v1.4 introduced the ability to control the format of the telephone numbers using Regular Expressions (REGEXs). We are extending that capability to any field text field.
  • Direct Reports listing - Directory Search now includes a list of a user's "direct reports".  Of course, this is only useful if you are using the Manager field.
  • Hide disabled user accounts in Directory Search and Directory Manager. This is an option you can enable or disable in the AppSettings.XML file
  • Export the search results to CSV or an Excel spreadsheet. Currently Directory Search and Directory Manager will only let you export the search results to an Excel spreadsheet. The file format (and the attributes to export) are selected in the AppSettings.XML file.
  • Assistant selection populates assistant phone - If you select an Assistant, Directory Update and Directory Manager will look up the assistant's phone and set the assistant phone number. Of course, this feature is only cool if the assistant's phone number is populated in Active Directory, too.  This is enabled in the DirectorySettings.XML file.
  • Search filter option for Contains - Directory Search will allow you to search for a value that contains your search criteria.
  • Help window can be resized
  • Change Welcome message - Welcome message is now "FirstName LastName"

  • Extension attributes 11 - 15 now supported
  • Web page now shows up as a hyperlink in Directory Search
